So, today is the 41st Earth Day. Ever since 1970 more and more people around the world have been taking time out for Mother Earth on April 22. It is a day marked by many pledges big and small to lessen our negative impact on the environment and promote green living. This is definitely a step in the right direction. But rather than making lofty promises that are way too difficult for the average busy family to keep for longer than a weekend, how about making a few small changes?
Small changes are much easier to implement and stick to, which adds up to lots of “green points” over time. So what can a busy person/family do to help the environment? Well, today is the perfect day to figure it out! Please find a few suggestions below. Ultimately it is about picking the changes that are easy for you to stick to over the long haul. EarthDay.org has many great ideas as well. Happy Earth Day!!
Easy-to-Implement Green Changes:
1.) Change out your standard incandescent light bulbs for LED or CFL bulbs. It will reduce your footprint on the environment while saving you money on your electricity bill.
2.) Commit to recycling. Try to repurpose what your local recycling center can’t take.
3.) Opt for organic and/or local food whenever possible. The less pesticides used on food and the shorter distance it has to travel, the better for the environment and you.
4.) Switch to green household cleaning products. You will be helping the earth while decreasing your family’s exposure to harmful chemicals.
5.)Buy items that are greener than the average. For example, shirts made from organic cotton or a table constructed from repurposed wood. You could also go green with your jewelry by purchasing from Something About Silver’s Organic Fine Silver Jewelry Line, which is made from recycled fine silver.
